Augvape – Templar RDA

Following on quickly from my review of the excellent Augvape V200 comes a review for their dual coil Templar RDA. This was sent to me at the same time as the V200 ( once again, cheers Steven! )

I’ve spent some time with it as a dripper and a squonk on several mods including the V200, with various builds, from simple 316l stainless to flatwire nichrome to kanthal claptons. After all this playing about, these are my thoughts!

AUGVAPE TEMPLAR – UNBOXING

The Templar comes in a lovely, classy looking thick card tube style package. A fairly minimalist matte black with the name on the side in yellow and the Augvape logo emblazoned on the lid.

Within the compact foam protected inner, you will find the RDA itself, a little baggie (o-rings, a squonk pin and a 510 drip tip adapter) and lastly, a lovely heat resistant frosted bullet style chuff cap too ( huge kudos for including this! )

AUGVAPE TEMPLAR – THE RDA

Here are the RDA features –

20180522_090501.jpg24mm Diameter

Phillips / Flat Head Screw
24K Gold Plated Deck
4mm Deep Juice Well
Adjustable Dual Airslots

Looking at the atomiser itself, you can see straight away it is well machined, clean and very easy on the eye, with nothing but a laser-etched Templar Knight helm logo on one side.

Breaking the unit down further, we can see the Templar consist of four key pieces : the deck, the air flow adjustment topcap, the midcap and the wide bore driptip –

And diving down even closer, the crowning glory for this RDA is easy to see… it’s gold plated velocity style clamp deck with single titanium screw

The deck itself is an absolute breeze to use. Unscrew the titanium screw revealing all four velocity style postholes. Pop in your coils, screw the t-bar shaped post back down, trapping the coils under it’s black Zirconium Dioxide insulators ( very hard wearing I believe ) and clip the lead ends. Voila! your work is done.

After juicing the wicks up, it’s time to replace the Templar’s main body shell. This has side airflow cutouts ( with no option to close off one side for single coils. It’s dual coil all the way here! ), and these airflow holes look like some sort of Morse code message! Three lines of dots and dashes that can be closed off layer by layer, or vertically across all three, by rotating the perfectly o-ring tensioned top-cap.

And I have to say right now, these are some of the smoothest, quietest air-flow cutouts I’ve come across! Just superb in use.

So there we have it. We’ve whizzed around the Templar RDA and how the thing fits together and works. Now, we get to have a toot on it!

AUGVAPE TEMPLAR – IN USE

So the ultimate question. The only question. HOW DOES IT VAPE!!!

Well, it’s a sublime vape all in all!

The wide bore delrin drip-tip has a nicely comfortable diameter ( 10mm ). If anything, I’d say the driptip is a smidge shallow, and when the metal body gets a little warm, your lips are likely to touch it.  There is a solution for the overly-warm coil builds later!

As I mentioned earlier, the airflow on this is magnificent. It’s ultra smooth, quiet and swooshy, whether it’s reduced down to one tiny hole or fully wide open.

Otherwise, whether it be sat on a squonk or just it’s just being old skool dripped on, the performance is supreme. The flavour from the Templar : top notch. The chamber is quite reduced anyway, but with it’s short profile and coils fairly close to the top of the atomiser, the Templar kicks-out flavour like a good-un!

And coming back to my previous point earlier about warm coil builds… you have the perfect solution already included in the box. A Bullet style chuffcap  made for this purpose! Like the stainless steel top-cap, this vapes really smoothly, with angled dual downward firing circular airholes and a shell that barely gets warm whatever coils you throw at it. Flavour may be a little reduced, but it’s by a surprisingly small margin,  and is a generous inclusion that Augvape didn’t even need to add! It’s touches like this that really makes a manufacturer stand out for me.

Point of interest – The shape of this bullet chuff cap struck me as looking VERY similar to an actual Knight Templar helmet!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I love this little attie! The performance is second to none, and I’m continually impressed with the smooth, quiet airflow. As for the velocity style deck with single screw clamp it’s just such a breeze to use. Oh, and the flavour is brilliant as well!

Absolutely recommend the Templar RDA to anyone who loves to flavour-chase, even if they have a penchant for blowing clouds!

Cheers, Peegore
